Swiss Nanoconvention 2014
The Swiss NanoConvention (SNC) is the prime annual showcase for nanotechnology in Switzerland, bringing together experts from industry, uni-versities, public research institutions, politics, and the media. If you are active in nanotechnology or interested in this field, participating at this event is a must for you. Since its start in 2011, the SNC has grown steadily and established itself as the only major public annual event in Switzerland on this topic. As a result the annual “Micro-Nano-Event” of the Swiss Commission for Technology and Inno-vation (CTI) has been integrated into the SNC.
After the major scientific breakthroughs in nanoscience more than 30 years ago – like the scanning tunneling microscope in Switzerland – nanotechnology has become a mature field with many applications in our daily life and in industrial production. In 2014 we therefore put the focus of the SNC more on applications and the opportunities of nanotechnology for small and medium enter-prises. This coincides perfectly with the formation of the “Hightechcenter Aargau” in 2013 in Brugg. It is a central part of the high-techstrategy of the canton of Aargau with a focus on nanotechnology.
Technical program
The program will consist of seven invited plenary lectures and ten topical sessions, each featuring between three and six invited talks. On May 21st a panel discussion will be held with the participation of the president of the ETHZ.
Plenary speakers include:
- Prof. Gabriel Aeppli, London Center of Nanotechnology and PSI
- Prof. Karl Schulte, Univ. Hamburg-Harburg
- Dr. Robert Landsiedel, BASF, Ludwigshafen
- Prof. Franz Giessibl, Univ. Regensburg
- Prof. Markus Aspelmayer, Univ. Wien
- Alex Hürzeler, Regierungsrat Kt. Aargau
- Dr. Martin Bopp, Hightechzentrum Aargau
Topical sessions will cover:
- «3 year anniversary of Binnig-Rohrer Nanotechnology Center», ETHZ-IBM
- Nanoengineered structural materials
- Nanomaterials for energy conversion and storage
- Biomedical, nanomedicine and nanotoxicity
- Nanoelectronics and quantum devices
- Nanophotonics
- Molecular structures
- Scanning probe techniques for industry
- Technology transfer
Many of the > 60 speakers from academia and industry invited for the topical sessions have already agreed to present their latest research or developments at the Swiss Nanoconvention. The full program will be online shortly.
Integrated in the SNC, the “CTI Micro- and Nano-event” will take place on May 22nd. Registration for this event is free, CTI participants are welcome to attend the plenary talks on May 22nd.
Registration: Please register online atwww.swissnanoconvention.ch/2014
Registration includes full access to all sessions on May 21st and 22nd, the printed program booklet, coffee breaks, buffet lunches, and an apéro riche on May 21st.
Advance online registration is possible until May 15th, 2014 for a fee of CHF 250.00. After that, on-site registration is CHF 300.00. Full time student registration fee is CHF 50.00.
Venue
The Swiss Nanoconvention 2014 will be held at the “CAMPUSSAAL” in the new FHNW Campus complex. This building is situated directly next to the south exit (use direction “Windisch”) of the Brugg SBB railway station. A limited number of parking spaces is available in the underground parking for CHF 2.00/h. We strongly recommend to use public transportation. Express trains connect Brugg to all major cities in Switzerland every 30 min. For overnight stays, Brugg has a limited number of hotels, and you may also check with hotels in Baden or Aarau, which are reached by just a short train trip.
Venue address: CAMPUSSAAL Kultur + Kongresse, Bahnhofstr. 6, 5210 Windisch.
MNE 2014
22. - 26. September 2014, MNE 2014, Micro and Nano Engineering 2014, Swiss Tech Convention Center, EPFL Lausanne.
MNE is a major annual international conference, devoted to micro and nano engineering, held in a European country every September. The conference brings together engineers and scientists from across the world to discuss recent progress and future trends in the fabrication, manufacturing, operation and application of micro and nano-structures and devices. Applications in electronics, magnetics, photonics, electromechanics, environment and life sciences are also discussed. MNE 2014 will be the 40th conference in a series that was started in Cambridge in 1975 and which was held most recently in Athens (2008), Ghent (2009), Genoa (2010), Berlin (2011), Toulouse (2012) and London (2013). In September 2014, MNE will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland in the new Swiss Tech Conference Center on the beautiful EPFL campus overlooking Lake Geneva and the Savoy Alps. It is estimated that the conference will attract 500-800 participants.
Conference Structure and Highlights
The conference will start with a welcome reception, held on Monday, 22 September 2014 in the evening. The technical sessions will be held from Tuesday 23 through to Friday 26 September, with the meeting closing on Friday. The programme combines plenary and parallel oral sessions featuring invited presentations by a number of internationally recognised experts and will also include both contributed oral and poster presentations. Accepted abstracts will be assigned to oral or poster presentations, based on recommendations from the International Programme Committee. In addition there will be a technical exhibition where exhibitors can display commercial tools, materials and software of direct interest to the community. www.mne2014.org <<
